AFTER TASTE

december 07th - january 24th 2009

opening:
Saturday 6th of December
7-10pm

For its second exhibition, The Wall Gallery presents a group show exploring sensuality, consumption and transformation.

In the installation of Sunna Wathen, bread turns into a sculpture, becoming a completely new artistic medium. An audacious mountain of bread majestically fills the space and fascinates through delicate circumvolutions of baked bone and lace.

Lisa Salamandra decided to eat the bread and transforms the vestige of the wrapped paper around it into a new surface for her artistic research. The series’ inherent cyclical nature: purchase/consumption, recycling, transformation, sale, consumption anew, speaks of the artist’s work as her “daily bread”, which allows her to subsist.

This philosophical statement conflicts with Matthew Rose’s collages and Pop bottles trafficking with the absurd. With a strong Dada inspired aesthetic, the artist disturbs meaning: a man’s body is attached to a carrot and a girl’s head becomes the innocent fruit of a lemon tree…

Finally, it is another kind of fruit that Nancy Jones delivers in her paintings. Ripe plums are mixed with sensual, erotic graphics and the forbidden is unveiled.

Bon appétit!
